Volume of household wastes

The results are based on the survey of household wastes supplied to the public disposal institutions, including packaging, which are collected by the reception systems according to Article 6 (3) of the packaging ordinance. The survey is based on the municipal waste balances compiled annually at Land authorities. The volume is covered in the breakdown by waste types of the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) according to the national ordinance on the waste catalogue of 10 December 2001 - BGBl. I p. 3379, last amended on 24 July 2002, BGBl. L. p.2833. Cf. EWC codes in brackets for the following definitions:

Municipal and bulky waste

Comprises not only mixed municipal waste (20030101) and bulky waste (200307), but also commercial wastes similar to municipal waste and collected together with municipal waste, depending on the relevant collection system and with a scope differing by regions.

Separately collected organic wastes

Comprises organic municipal wastes (20030104) and biodegradable garden and park wastes (200201).

Separately collected potentially recyclable waste

Comprises packaging (including separately collected municipal packaging waste) (1501) as well as other separately collected fractions (2001) consisting of glass, paper and cardboard, metals, wood, plastics and textiles.

Waste from electrical and electronic equipment

Comprises separately collected discarded electrical and electronic equipment (200123, 200135, 200136).

Other wastes

Comprises other separately collected hazardous (all 2001*) and non-hazardous (200128, 200130, 200132, 200134, 200199 and 200399) municipal wastes.
